Delhaize,has opened a new distribution center yesterday in Zellik, Belgium called Fresh DC II. It is a huge refrigerated warehouse of

12,000 sqm, which can store and distribute fresh and ultra-fresh produce to some 789 Delhaize stores throughout Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. "The opening of our new refrigerated distribution center allows us to offer our customers even fresher products with better traceability," said Michel Eeckhout, CEO for Delhaize Belgium. This new distribution center operates 6 days out of 7 and 22 hours per day. This investment allows for a more efficient fresh products logistic and is environmentally friendly. Delhaize can now better meet the growing demand for fresh produce, and this new center provides employment to more than 2,000 people. The company has achieved 4.4 billion euros in 2008 and is set to see its turnover grow thanks to this new investment.
